Change?

We provide coaching and training using NLP, helping you create the changes you want. And when we're talking about change, what is it we're talking about? And what's NLP? And how does NLP produce change? And who is this for?

Change

In it's simplest form, change is the difference|unlocked| between now, and then. The distance between what was and what is. There was a time when things were different, and the difference is what changed.

When we're planning change, we're really interested in the difference between what is, and what could be. And the secret to making change happen easily is finding the key that opens the door into the new world you're creating with the least investment of energy, producing the most powerful changes you have all the potential within you to create.

NLP?|wondering|

All you really need to know about NLP is that it's a way of thinking about the world that makes changing your world easier. Neuro-Linguistic Programming has its roots in psychology, the study of mind and behaviour. It started out as a wondering about the structure of experience, the building blocks of human knowing. |building blocks|

The art and science of NLP is probably best described as an attitude of insatiable curiosity. The kind of insatiable curiosity that you might have seen if you've spent any time around a small child. Or maybe you remember when you don't know how things are, and wondering...

There are some things that NLP presupposes to be true, one being that what one human being can achieve, others can, too. Where others ask, why? NLP asks, how? How did they get that? What were the things they did that were really significant in getting that result, and how can I do those same things in the same way? People have used NLP to find out how the people who get astounding results in their chosen field do that, creating a model that can be taught, and learned, to get similar exceptional results.

NLP and change, now...

|success|If we always do what we've always done we'll always get what we've always got. NLP has been used to develop some great techniques that produce real, lasting, significant change. In people. In families. In organisations. Of course, there are already lots of really valuable and effective approaches to change work. And NLP has been used to model what's really important in producing the change in some of those approaches. Of course, there's always the option to use trial and error and learn afresh what other people have already learned, and developed into powerful techniques that consistently make change happen.

For all of us, we start producing opportunities to create new options and achieve different outcomes when we begin doing things differently.

For many people, that starts when they begin to wonder whether there might be other ways of understanding the information available to them.

Some of the most powerful changes are emerging from how you organise your understanding of your world. Organising differently creates new understandings, new opportunities, new worlds, change.

Too good to miss

|burdened|Has there ever been something that you really didn't think you could do, and then you did it anyway? And do you get a sense of how different you were before and after that event? And who is the you that is noticing that difference?

Sometimes, we're drawn towards creating change when we have identified something that we no longer want, or something we want more of in our world. You can't solve a 'problem' with the same thinking that created it. You have to create a different model, a larger model, a different way of thinking that enables you to include the current situation as well as other options about how you're thinking about that. Often, just thinking about how it used to be, differently, changes your world enough to create more options. |unburdened|What used to be difficult can become a resource, something to help you lever the other resources you need to have more of what you want, and less of what you don't want. And you already have all the resources you need. The secret is remembering how to unlock even more of that potential.

Maybe there's something you do that you'd rather you didn't. Maybe something you do that seems to get in the way of getting more of what you want? And when might be a time when it's helpful to be able to do that behaviour? Maybe not a time that you've experienced yet, and any forseeable event when it might actually be a really good thing that you can do that behaviour? And while you're thinking more about that, think more about these next ideas...if the behaviour is just something that's not your best option in particular contexts - maybe doesn't get you what you want, or produces unwanted side-effects, then how much more powerful will you be feeling when you're accessing the resources you need to give you more choices, more options, more effective behaviours? And what would you like to be finding yourself doing next time, instead?

And when you're doing that, what will that get you, and what does that do, for you?

When we get down to the fundamentals of change, we're describing differences in how you think, feel and behave, how you perceive the world around you, what you notice and the meanings you attach to what you're noticing. There are values that you hold as precious, important. And as you're growing, developing and changing your values change with you. There are things that once were true, and now no longer are. Beliefs that once were absolute, and now are not so certain, or maybe even absolutely untrue. You know the sun will rise tomorrow morning. You know that you know, in just the same way that you know other things to be absolutely true. You don't wonder whether the sun will come, you just know it will happen.

|tied2|And how would it be if you could be that certain about beliefs that you'd like to believe, but aren't yet sure whether they're true or not? Something that you might think you could only dream about knowing about yourself. About how much fun you are to be around. About how powerful you are. How good you are at getting the job done. How comfortable you feel, and safe, and secure. Won't it be great when you can change the qualities of what you weren't sure about until you are as sure about your new belief as you are that the sun will rise. When you ask yourself whether it's true, the qualities of how you respond are the same as the qualities of how you respond when you know things to be absolutely true, and it's true, absolutely true.

And you do that, all of the time. You're so good at doing it, you might not have noticed how easily you can change your mind when you set your mind to it. And how readily you'll keep the change when it's working for you.

|tied3|Change is the only constant. You already have strategies that you're using to create and manage change. They're what you do. Whether that's changing you, or relationships in your family, or your business. Wherever there's change, you already have a finely tuned sense of how to respond, of what to do. It's so finely tuned, it's almost like you don't even notice how you do it. Like any of the other things you do without noticing, like keeping your balance, like walking. Breathe. And notice how it sounds.

|tied4|And if you could learn other effective strategies, adding more options, learning new skills, keeping all of what you already have...can you really afford to miss the opportunity to learn more? Invest just a little more time. Know when you click on the link to the next page how important this learning is for you.
